Matheran is connected to the town of Neral which lies at the base of the hills on SH 109. Project involved Project Management Consultancy including Incidental design &it’s Proof checking of A bituminous road, about 6.7 km in length and having a width of about 5.0 to 5.5 meter, connects Neral to Dasturi Naka. This road passes through extreme and difficult terrain, mountainous topography and high altitude. The road is severely affected by heavy rainfall, landslide etc. Apart from that there are many hairpin bends and steep grades beyond the exceptional gradient limit prescribed by IRC. As the project area is rich in natural resources, flora and fauna, it is declared an Eco sensitive by the Union Environment Ministry of India in 2002. Considering developments and increase in tourist, the widening and improvement of SH-109 from Neral to Dasturi road, having length of about 6.70 Km, is proposed for 2 lanes with storm water drain as per the availability of the ROW. Project Road starts from Neral to Dasturi Naka.
